How to recite ·

Light a ghee lamp and camphor on the aarti plate, stand before the goddess and wave the plate in slow circles while the family sings together. Gita Press's Nitya Karma Puja Prakash describes singing it with family members while a bell is rung. Sing the refrain after every verse.

When should Om Jai Lakshmi Mata be sung?

It is sung at the end of Lakshmi puja on Diwali evening, and many families also sing it on Fridays, on Sharad Purnima, during Navratri and in daily evening worship.

Is it 'Har Vishnu Vidhata' or 'Hari Vishnu Vidhata'?'

Most sources we checked, including Gita Press, have 'Har', meaning Shiva, so the line names the three gods Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma (Vidhata; Gita Press prints the same idea as 'Dhata'). Some websites print 'Hari'.

Who wrote the Lakshmi aarti Om Jai Lakshmi Mata?

No author is known. It is a traditional aarti that has been passed down and printed in collections such as Gita Press's Aarti Sangrah.

What are the fourteen jewels (ratna chaturdash) in the aarti?

They are the fourteen treasures that, according to the Puranas, rose from the ocean of milk when the gods and asuras churned it. Lakshmi herself appeared from that churning, which is why she is called Kshirodadhi-jata, born of the milk ocean.
