Meaning:Om, I bow to Bhagavan Vasudeva. (Om: the sacred syllable. Namah: salutation. Bhagavate: to the Lord. Vasudeva: a name of Vishnu, and of Krishna as the son of Vasudeva.)

A twelve-syllable mantra of salutation to Vishnu as Vasudeva, also used by devotees of Krishna. It is known as the Dwadashakshari (twelve-syllable) mantra and is widely chanted by Vaishnava devotees.

यह भगवान विष्णु के वासुदेव रूप को नमन करने वाला बारह अक्षरों का मंत्र है, जिसे श्रीकृष्ण के भक्त भी जपते हैं। इसे द्वादशाक्षर मंत्र कहा जाता है और वैष्णव भक्त इसे व्यापक रूप से जपते हैं।

When to recite · कब पढ़ें

Devotees traditionally chant it as daily japa, especially in the morning, on Ekadashi, on Thursdays and on Janmashtami. Many chant it 108 times on a mala.

There is no single rule. Many devotees chant one mala of 108, others chant it a few times as a prayer. Follow the practice of your family or guru.

Both sources give the same four words, ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय, as the opening line of Bhagavata Purana 4.8.54. Vedabase closes it with । and GRETIL prints it in roman letters; the words do not vary.
