About Sharad Purnima
Sharad Purnima is the full moon of Ashwin, the night after which winter begins to set in. Families worship the moon and Goddess Lakshmi, and in Bengal, Odisha and Assam the night is kept as Kojagari Lakshmi Puja. Kheer is traditionally left in the moonlight and shared as prasad.
शरद पूर्णिमा आश्विन मास की पूर्णिमा है, जिसके बाद ठंड शुरू होती है। परिवार चंद्रमा और मां लक्ष्मी की पूजा करते हैं, और बंगाल, ओडिशा व असम में यह रात कोजागरी लक्ष्मी पूजा के रूप में मनाई जाती है। परंपरा से खीर चांदनी में रखी जाती है और प्रसाद के रूप में बांटी जाती है।
What to do on Sharad Purnima
शरद पूर्णिमा की सरल विधि
- Bathe in the evening and clean the puja place.
- Worship Goddess Lakshmi with a lamp, flowers, rice and sweets; many families recite the Lakshmi aarti.
- After moonrise, offer water (arghya) to the moon.
- Make kheer with milk and rice, cover it with a fine cloth, and keep it in the moonlight.
- Offer it to the deity and share it as prasad, at night or the next morning, as your family does.
- शाम को स्नान करके पूजा स्थान साफ़ करें।
- दीपक, फूल, अक्षत और मिठाई से मां लक्ष्मी की पूजा करें; कई परिवार लक्ष्मी जी की आरती गाते हैं।
- चंद्रोदय के बाद चंद्रमा को जल (अर्घ्य) दें।
- दूध और चावल की खीर बनाकर महीन कपड़े से ढकें और चांदनी में रखें।
- भगवान को भोग लगाकर परिवार की परंपरा के अनुसार रात में या अगली सुबह प्रसाद के रूप में बांटें।
