About Karwa Chauth
Karwa Chauth is a one-day fast kept mainly by married women in North India for the long life and wellbeing of their husbands. The fast runs from sunrise to moonrise, and the evening puja honours Shiva, Parvati, Ganesh and Kartikeya with the karwa, the small pot the day is named after.
करवा चौथ मुख्य रूप से उत्तर भारत में विवाहित स्त्रियों का एक दिन का व्रत है, जो पति की लंबी आयु और कुशलता के लिए रखा जाता है। व्रत सूर्योदय से चंद्रोदय तक चलता है, और शाम की पूजा में करवे के साथ शिव, पार्वती, गणेश और कार्तिकेय की पूजा होती है।
What to do on Karwa Chauth
करवा चौथ की सरल विधि
- Eat the sargi before sunrise, then begin the fast.
- In the evening, after sunset, set up the puja with the karwa filled with water, a lamp, roli, rice and sweets.
- Worship Gauri (Parvati) with Shiva, Ganesh and Kartikeya, and listen to or read the Karwa Chauth katha.
- When the moon rises, look at it through a sieve, offer water (arghya) from the karwa and pray.
- Break the fast with water and food from your husband's hand, as your family does.
- सूर्योदय से पहले सरगी खाकर व्रत शुरू करें।
- शाम को सूर्यास्त के बाद जल भरा करवा, दीपक, रोली, चावल और मिठाई के साथ पूजा सजाएं।
- शिव, गणेश और कार्तिकेय सहित गौरी (पार्वती) की पूजा करें और करवा चौथ की कथा सुनें या पढ़ें।
- चांद निकलने पर छलनी से चांद देखें, करवे से अर्घ्य दें और प्रार्थना करें।
