We checked every line of this mantra against these sources before publishing it (checked on 16 Sept 2026). The meanings are written by us.

Which version we use

Chapter 5 of the Devi Mahatmya has 21 lines beginning 'या देवी सर्वभूतेषु', verses 5.14 to 5.76 (each line counts as three verses because of the threefold 'नमस्तस्यै'). Short recite-along versions print only some of them, and different pages pick different ones, so this page gives all 21 in the order of the text rather than an arbitrary selection. Left out: the opening verses of the same hymn of the gods (5.9 to 5.13, beginning 'नमो देव्यै महादेव्यै') and the two verses that follow the 21 lines (5.77 'इन्द्रियाणामधिष्ठात्री' and 5.78 to 5.80 'चितिरूपेण या कृत्स्नमेतद्व्याप्य स्थिता जगत्'), because they do not begin 'या देवी'; some versions add the 'चितिरूपेण' verse at the end. Sanskrit Documents, Green Message, Vaidika Vignanam and the Gita Press Durga Saptashati (verses 5.14 to 5.76 checked on the page images, pages 95-98, not the OCR) agree on all 21 lines word for word, in the same order. The one difference is sandhi spelling in stanza 6: the Gita Press prints 'सर्वभूतेषुच्छायारूपेण', the grammatically joined form with a doubled 'chh', where Sanskrit Documents, Green Message and Vaidika Vignanam print 'सर्वभूतेषु छायारूपेण'. The split form is kept because three witnesses print it; the words are the same.
