An eight-verse hymn to Vishnu that strings together his names as Achyuta, Keshava, Rama, Krishna and many more. It moves between Vishnu, Rama and Krishna and ends with a verse on the value of reciting it.

Questions people ask

Who wrote Achyutashtakam?

Tradition attributes it to Adi Shankaracharya, and the closing line printed after the verses names him. As with many hymns credited to him, scholars do not all agree on the attribution.

Is 'Achyutam Keshavam Krishna Damodaram' the same as Achyutashtakam?

Not exactly. The popular bhajan 'Achyutam Keshavam Krishna Damodaram, Rama Narayanam Janaki Vallabham' is inspired by it, but its words and order differ. This page gives the Sanskrit stotram.

What does Achyuta mean?

Achyuta means 'the one who never falls or slips'. It is a name of Vishnu, describing the Lord who never departs from his nature.

When should Achyutashtakam be recited?

There is no strict rule. Devotees commonly recite it in daily prayer, on Ekadashi and Thursdays, and on Janmashtami and Ram Navami.
