About Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya

श्लोक के बारे में

Two famous verses in which Krishna explains why he takes birth in the world. Whenever dharma declines and adharma rises, he manifests himself to protect the good, end wrongdoing and re-establish dharma, age after age.

ये दो प्रसिद्ध श्लोक हैं जिनमें श्रीकृष्ण बताते हैं कि वे संसार में क्यों प्रकट होते हैं। जब-जब धर्म की हानि होती है और अधर्म बढ़ता है, तब-तब वे सज्जनों की रक्षा, दुष्कर्म के अंत और धर्म की स्थापना के लिए युग-युग में प्रकट होते हैं।

When to recite · कब पढ़ें

These verses are often recited on Janmashtami and Gita Jayanti, during Gita path, and by many devotees as part of their daily reading.

ये श्लोक प्रायः जन्माष्टमी और गीता जयंती पर, गीता पाठ के समय, और कई भक्तों द्वारा दैनिक पाठ में पढ़े जाते हैं।

How to recite · कैसे पढ़ें

Questions people ask

अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

What is the meaning of Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya?यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य का अर्थ क्या है?

Krishna says that whenever dharma declines and adharma rises, he manifests himself. The next verse gives the reason: to protect the good, end wrongdoing and re-establish dharma in every age.

श्रीकृष्ण कहते हैं कि जब-जब धर्म की हानि और अधर्म की वृद्धि होती है, तब-तब वे प्रकट होते हैं। अगला श्लोक कारण बताता है: सज्जनों की रक्षा, दुष्कर्म का अंत और हर युग में धर्म की स्थापना।

Which chapter of the Bhagavad Gita has Yada Yada Hi Dharmasya?यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य गीता के किस अध्याय में है?

It is chapter 4, verses 7 and 8. Chapter 4 is known as Jnana Karma Sannyasa Yoga.

यह गीता के चौथे अध्याय के श्लोक 7 और 8 हैं। चौथे अध्याय को ज्ञान कर्म संन्यास योग कहा जाता है।

Who is Bharata in this verse?इस श्लोक में भारत किसे कहा गया है?

Bharata here is a name for Arjuna. It means a descendant of King Bharata, an ancestor of the Kuru family.

यहाँ भारत अर्जुन का संबोधन है। इसका अर्थ है राजा भरत का वंशज, जो कुरु वंश के पूर्वज थे।

Is Paritranaya Sadhunam a separate shlok?क्या परित्राणाय साधूनां अलग श्लोक है?

It is the next verse, Gita 4.8. It completes the thought of 4.7, which is why the two are almost always recited together.

यह अगला श्लोक, गीता 4.8, है। यह 4.7 की बात को पूरा करता है, इसीलिए दोनों श्लोक प्रायः साथ में पढ़े जाते हैं।

Which version we use

Sanskrit Documents and Holy Bhagavad Gita agree word for word on both verses, and Vedabase agrees on 4.7. Vedabase's Devanagari for 4.8 reads साधुनां and धर्मसंस्थानार्थाय, but its own roman text on the same page gives sādhūnām and saṁsthāpana, so we treat those as typing slips and follow the majority: साधूनां and धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय. Sanskrit Wikisource also matches both verses character for character. Gita Supersite (IIT Bombay) could not be read by script: its pages load the text only after a browser check.
