Questions people ask

Who wrote 'Aarti Kije Hanuman Lala Ki'?'

The author is not known. Many versions online end with the line 'Tulsidas swami kirti gai', so it is often credited to Tulsidas, but the Gita Press edition printed in household booklets does not include that line and there is no firm evidence for the attribution.

When should Hanuman ji ki aarti be sung?

Traditionally on Tuesdays and Saturdays, on Hanuman Jayanti, and at the end of every Hanuman puja. Many people sing it right after reading the Hanuman Chalisa, in the morning or evening.

What does 'Dusht dalan Raghunath kala ki' mean?'

Dusht dalan means 'one who crushes the wicked', and Raghunath kala means 'a power or part of Raghunath', that is, of Ram. The line praises Hanuman as the force of Ram that destroys evil.

Who is Ahiravan in the Hanuman aarti?

Ahiravan is a demon of Patal (the underworld) in popular Ramayana tellings. The story goes that he carried Ram and Lakshman away to Patal, and Hanuman went there, killed him and brought them back. The aarti refers to this in verse 4.

We checked every line of this aarti against these sources before publishing it (checked on 17 Sept 2026). The meanings are written by us.

Which version we use

The text follows the Gita Press Hanuman Chalisa booklet (book code 227, page 25) line for line, read from the scanned page, so every half-line matches it verbatim. The Gita Press Aarti Sangrah (book code 153, page 54, also read from the page image) has the same eleven couplets and refrain in the same order and matches every half-line verbatim except two, where it reads 'सीतारामजीके काज सँवारे' and 'जय जय जय हनुमान उचारे'; we keep the booklet's 'सियारामजीके' and 'जै जै जै', which the web texts share. Gita Press prints the aarti as numbered couplets; they are grouped here in pairs as four-line verses. It was also checked against 5 web texts: Webdunia, Kavita Kosh, Bhakti Bharat, Ramodey and The Shivling. 19 of 24 half-lines are also found verbatim on the web; Ramodey's Devanagari text is closest to Gita Press and alone matches 'निकट न झाँपै', 'दे बीरा रघुनाथ पठाये', 'आनि सजीवन प्रान उबारे', 'दहिने भुजा संतजन तारे' and 'सुर नर मुनि आरती उतारे' (without जन). Five half-lines are attested only by the two Gita Press editions and differ from the web texts in spelling: 'जाके बल से गिरिवर काँपै' (Ramodey 'गिरवर काँपै', Webdunia and Kavita Kosh 'गिरिवर काँपे/कांपे'); 'लंका जारि सीय सुधि लाये' (Ramodey 'सिय', others 'सिया'; Kavita Kosh and The Shivling 'लंका जाय/जाये'); 'आरति करत अंजना माई' (web 'आरती'); 'जो हनुमानजी की आरति गावै' (web 'आरती/आरति', 'गावै/गावे'); 'बसि बैकुंठ परमपद पावै' (Webdunia 'बसी', Kavita Kosh 'बसि वैकुण्ठ', others 'बसहिं'). Gita Press prints '(जी)' in brackets after हनुमान. Other wording in web texts: 'रोग दोष जाके निकट न झाँके' (4 texts), 'लाये संजिवन प्राण' (Bhakti Bharat), 'बाईं भुजा' (Bhakti Bharat), 'सुर नर मुनि जन आरती उतारे' (Webdunia, Bhakti Bharat, The Shivling). Four of the five web texts (Webdunia, Bhakti Bharat, Ramodey, The Shivling) add a closing couplet that neither Gita Press edition has: 'लंक विध्वंस किये रघुराई। तुलसीदास प्रभु कीरति गाई'); it is left out here. The refrain is sung after every verse.
