We checked every line of this stotram against these sources before publishing it (checked on 16 Sept 2026). The meanings are written by us.

Which version we use

Numbering: the hymn is Yuddha Kanda sarga 105 in the Gita Press edition (also Sanskrit Wikisource, Vaidika Vignanam and valmikiramayan.net) and sarga 107 in southern editions (the Trichy booklet and the Sanskrit Documents introduction). It is not in the main text of the Baroda critical edition (we searched the GRETIL e-text of that edition, where Ravana is killed in sarga 97). Text: two wordings circulate. The recited stotra is printed by Sanskrit Documents, the Sanskrit Wikisource stotra page, Vaidika Vignanam, Green Message and the Trichy booklet. Gita Press prints the Ramayana wording, both in its Valmiki Ramayan and in its Nitya Karma Puja Prakash; Sanskrit Wikisource's sarga 105 matches it and valmikiramayan.net is close to it. We compared every half-line across all of these, counting the Gita Press books and the Wikisource copy of their text as one edition, and give the whole half-line printed by the most editions; every half-line here matches at least one source exactly. Joined and split spellings of the same words (जपेन्नित्यमक्षय्यं, जपेन्नित्यम् अक्षय्यं) count as the same reading for the tally, but the line is printed as a source prints it. Where editions disagree: 4b 'जपेन्नित्यमक्षय्यं' (as written by Green Message and valmikiramayan.net; Sanskrit Wikisource splits it 'जपेन्नित्यम् अक्षय्यं'; Vaidika Vignanam 'जपेन्नित्यं अक्षय्यं'; Sanskrit Documents 'जपेन्नित्यमक्षयं'; Gita Press 'जपं नित्यमक्षयं'; the Trichy booklet ends the line 'परमं शुभम्'); 5b 'चिन्ताशोकप्रशमनमायुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम्' (also written 'प्रशमनं आयुर्'); 7b 'देवासुरगणाँल्लोकान्' (Vaidika Vignanam, Green Message and valmikiramayan.net 'देवासुरगणान् लोकान्'); 8b 'महेन्द्रो' (Green Message 'माहेन्द्रो'); 9a 'साध्या ह्यश्विनौ' (Gita Press 'साध्या अश्विनौ'); 9b 'प्रजाप्राण ऋतुकर्ता' (Sanskrit Documents, the Wikisource stotra page and the Trichy booklet; Gita Press and valmikiramayan.net 'प्रजाः प्राण', Vaidika Vignanam 'प्रजाप्राणः', Green Message 'प्रजाप्राणा'); 10b 'हिरण्यरेता' (Green Message 'हिरण्यरेतो'; the Trichy booklet 'स्वर्णरेता', which Vaidika Vignanam gives as an alternative; Sanskrit Documents notes 'विश्वरेता'); 11b 'मार्ताण्ड अंशुमान्' (Gita Press 'मार्तण्डकोंऽशुमान्', Vaidika Vignanam 'मार्ताण्डकोंऽशुमान्'); 12a 'तपनो भास्करो' (Gita Press 'तपनोऽहस्करो'); 13b 'घनवृष्टिरपां मित्रो' (Vaidika Vignanam 'घनावृष्टिरपां मित्रः'); 14b 'महातेजा रक्तः' (Gita Press, Vaidika Vignanam, valmikiramayan.net and the Trichy booklet; Sanskrit Documents and the Wikisource stotra page 'महातेजाः'); 18b 'मार्ताण्डाय नमो नमः' (Green Message 'मार्तण्डाय'; Gita Press 'प्रचण्डाय नमोऽस्तु ते'); 19a 'सूर्यायादित्यवर्चसे' (Green Message 'सूर्यादित्यवर्चसे', Gita Press 'सूरायादित्यवर्चसे'); 21a 'वह्नये' (Gita Press 'हरये'); 21b 'रुचये' (Vaidika Vignanam and the Trichy booklet 'रवये'); 22a 'तदेव' (Gita Press 'तमेव'); 23b 'एष एवाग्निहोत्रं' (Green Message, Gita Press and valmikiramayan.net 'एष चैवाग्निहोत्रं', the closest split); 24 'वेदाश्च' and 'सर्व एष रविः प्रभुः' (Gita Press 'देवाश्च' and 'सर्वेषु परमप्रभुः'); 27a 'वधिष्यसि' (Gita Press 'जहिष्यसि'); 27b 'तदागस्त्यो जगाम च' (Green Message 'ततोऽगस्त्यो जगाम च', Gita Press 'ततोऽगस्त्यो जगाम स'); 28a 'महातेजा' (Vaidika Vignanam and Green Message 'महातेजाः'); 29a 'जप्त्वा तु' (Gita Press 'जप्त्वेदं'); 30 'युद्धाय' and 'वधे तस्य धृतोऽभवत्' (Gita Press 'जयार्थं' and 'वृतस्तस्य वधेऽभवत्'); 31b 'निशिचरपतिसंक्षयं' (also 'सङ्क्षयं'). Gita Press also reads 2b 'उपगम्याब्रवीद्राममगस्त्यो भगवांस्तदा' and 3b 'विजयिष्यसे'. Verse 31, in a longer metre, is printed on two lines by most editions and on four by Sanskrit Documents and the Ramayana text.
