Kedarnath Jyotirlinga Himalaya ki godh mein 3,583 meter ki unchai par Mandakini nadi ke udgam ke paas sthit hai. Yeh dwadash Jyotirlingon mein sabse uncha aur Char Dham yatra ka ek mukhya padaav hai. Maanyata hai ki Mahabharat ke baad Pandav apne paapon se mukti paane Shiv ke paas aaye, par Shiv unse bachte hue bael (nandi) ka roop leke yahan chhup gaye. Bheem ne unhe pehchan liya to Shiv dharti mein samaa gaye aur unka 'peeth' (pichhla bhaag) yahan prakat hua — isi roop mein Kedarnath ki pooja hoti hai. Mandir hazaaron saal purana hai, kaha jaata hai ise Aadi Shankaracharya ne punah sthaapit kiya. Mandir sirf May se November tak khula rehta hai; sardiyon mein vigraha Ukhimath le jaaya jaata hai. Archana ke through aap ghar baithe Kedarnath par archana karwa sakte hain. Mandir ka pandit aapka naam, gotra aur nakshatra lekar Kedar Baba ke samne aapka sankalp aur manokamna bolta hai, aur aapke naam se phool aur prasad arpit karta hai. Significance
Kedarnath ke darshan aur abhishek ko moksh dene wala maana jaata hai. Bhakt yahan jeevan-mrityu ke bandhan se mukti, purvajon ki shanti (pitru dosh), aur atmik udhaar ke liye pooja karwate hain. Kaha jaata hai 'Kedar ke darshan bina Char Dham adhoora hai.'
