Durga Saptashati, also known as Devi Mahatmyam or Chandi Path, consists of 700 verses from the Markandeya Purana. These verses describe the battles of Goddess Durga against the demons Madhu-Kaitabh, Mahishasura, and Shumbha-Nishumbha — symbolizing the triumph of divine feminine energy over evil. The path is divided into 13 chapters across three sections (charitas), each invoking a different aspect of the Goddess: Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati.
