Meaning:Word by word: Om is the sacred syllable with which Vedic and devotional mantras begin. Gam is the bija (seed) syllable of Ganesh, a single sound held to carry his presence. Ganapataye means 'to Ganapati', the lord (pati) of the ganas, the hosts or attendants of Shiva; Ganapati is another name for Ganesh. Namah means 'salutation' or 'I bow'. Together: Om, Gam, I bow to Lord Ganapati.
अर्थ:शब्दशः अर्थ: ॐ वह पवित्र अक्षर है जिससे वैदिक और भक्ति मंत्र आरंभ होते हैं। गं गणेश जी का बीज अक्षर है, जिसे उनकी उपस्थिति का प्रतीक माना जाता है। गणपतये का अर्थ है 'गणपति को', यानी गणों (शिव के सेवकों या समूहों) के स्वामी को; गणपति गणेश जी का ही नाम है। नमः का अर्थ है 'नमस्कार' या 'मैं झुककर प्रणाम करता हूँ'। पूरा अर्थ: ॐ, गं, भगवान गणपति को मेरा प्रणाम।

Meaning:This passage explains how the mantra is built. First say 'ga', the first sound of the word gana; then 'a', the first of all letters; after it comes the anusvara (the nasal 'm'). It is marked with the half-moon sign and joined with Tara, that is, Om. This is the form of your mantra. 'Ga' is its first part, 'a' its middle part, the anusvara its last part and the bindu (dot) its upper part; the nada (resonance) joins them and their union is the sandhi (link). This is the Ganesh-vidya, the knowledge of Ganesh. Its seer is Ganaka, its metre is nichrid gayatri, and its deity is Ganapati. Om Gam Ganapataye Namah.
