आरती के बारे में

Who wrote it
By Samarth RamdasSamarth Ramdas (1608-1682), the Marathi saint-poet. He signs the aarti in verse 3 as 'Das Ramacha' (servant of Ram, a play on his name). Gita Press prints it under the heading 'Shri Samarth Ramdas-krit Aarti', L. R. Pangarkar includes it in his 1927 edition of Ramdas's works (Shri Samarth Granth Bhandar), and M. S. Mate's 'Temples and Legends of Maharashtra' (1962) records the tradition that Ramdas composed it at the Morgaon temple. No source disputing the attribution was found. Pangarkar's edition prints two stanzas and gives the 'Ratnakhachit' stanza in a footnote as the form current in the Samarth tradition.

Who wrote Sukhkarta Dukhharta?सुखकर्ता दुखहर्ता किसने लिखी?

The Marathi saint Samarth Ramdas (1608-1682). He places his signature in the third verse: 'Das Ramacha vat pahe sadana', the servant of Ram waits at home. Tradition holds that he composed it after seeing Mayureshwar, the Ganesh of Morgaon near Pune.

मराठी संत समर्थ रामदास (1608-1682) ने। तीसरे पद में उनकी छाप है: 'दास रामाचा वाट पाहे सदना', यानी राम का दास घर पर राह देख रहा है। परंपरा के अनुसार उन्होंने पुणे के पास मोरगाँव के मयूरेश्वर गणपति के दर्शन के बाद इसकी रचना की।

What does 'nuravi puravi prem' mean?'नुरवी पुरवी प्रेम' का क्या अर्थ है?

Nuravi means 'lets nothing remain' and puravi means 'provides'. The line says Ganesh leaves no trace of obstacles and his grace supplies love. The Marathi weekly Lokprabha notes that people often mis-sing these words as 'nurvi' and 'purvi', which have no meaning.

नुरवी यानी 'कुछ भी शेष न रहने देना' और पुरवी यानी 'पूरा करना, प्रदान करना'। पंक्ति का अर्थ है कि गणेश जी विघ्नों का नाम नहीं रहने देते और उनकी कृपा प्रेम देती है। मराठी साप्ताहिक लोकप्रभा के अनुसार लोग अक्सर इन्हें 'नुर्वी' और 'पुर्वी' गाते हैं, जो निरर्थक शब्द हैं।

Is Sukhkarta Dukhharta in Hindi or Marathi?सुखकर्ता दुखहर्ता हिंदी में है या मराठी में?

It is in Marathi. It is sung all over India, especially during Ganesh Chaturthi, but the words are old Marathi, which is why a Hindi or English meaning helps.

यह मराठी में है। यह पूरे भारत में, खासकर गणेश चतुर्थी पर गाई जाती है, पर इसके शब्द पुरानी मराठी के हैं, इसलिए हिंदी या अंग्रेज़ी अर्थ मदद करता है।

When is Sukhkarta Dukhharta sung?सुखकर्ता दुखहर्ता कब गाई जाती है?

In Maharashtra it is usually the first of the aartis sung at the end of a Ganesh puja, and it is sung morning and evening throughout Ganesh Chaturthi.

महाराष्ट्र में गणेश पूजा के अंत में गाई जाने वाली आरतियों में प्रायः यही पहली होती है, और गणेश चतुर्थी के पूरे उत्सव में सुबह-शाम गाई जाती है।

We checked every line of this aarti against these sources before publishing it (checked on 17 Sept 2026). The meanings are written by us.

Which version we use

Printed texts were read from page images: Gita Press book 1600 (headed 'श्रीसमर्थ रामदासकृत आरती'), Navneet (1878 printing), and two books compiled by L. R. Pangarkar, Shri Samarth Granth Bhandar (1927) and Bhaktimarg Pradip, counted as one witness. All wording follows these prints. The older prints use the pre-1962 Marathi spellings with anusvara on endings ('सर्वांगीं', 'कंठीं', 'दर्शनमात्रें', 'नूपुरें चरणीं', 'संकटीं पावावें निर्वाणीं रक्षावें'), and Gita Press also writes 'सर्वाङ्गीं', 'मङ्गल', 'लम्बोदर'. Where only this spelling differs, the modern spelling is kept, and each such half-line matches web texts verbatim. Web texts compared: Shabdyatri, two Webdunia Marathi pages, Geetmanjusha, and one shared text on English Wikipedia, Marathi Wikipedia and Amit Chakradeo (they share 'विघ्नांची' and 'कुमकुम केशरा', so they count once). Choices: 'सुखकर्ता दुःखहर्ता वार्ता विघ्नाची' as printed by Gita Press, Pangarkar and Geetmanjusha; Navneet, Shabdyatri and Webdunia write 'दुखहर्ता'; every print has 'विघ्नाची', and 'विघ्नांची' is only the shared Wikipedia text. 'नुरवी पुरवी' in all prints (one Webdunia page 'पूर्वी'; Lokprabha, 17 September 2010, calls 'नुर्वी' and 'पुर्वी' meaningless mis-singings). 'सर्वांगी सुंदर उटी शेंदुराची' matches the web texts; all prints spell it 'उटि', which is the same word. Refrain 'दर्शनमात्रे मन कामना पुरती' (Gita Press and Navneet 'पुरती'; Pangarkar, Marathi Wikipedia and Geetmanjusha 'पूर्ती'). 'रत्नखचित फरा तुज गौरीकुमरा' (Gita Press, Navneet, Pangarkar; Webdunia 'तूज'). 'चंदनाची उटी कुंकुमकेशरा' (all prints 'कुंकुम'; the shared Wikipedia text 'कुमकुम केशरा'). 'हिरेजडित मुकुट शोभतो बरा' as in Gita Press (Navneet and Pangarkar 'मुगुट'). 'नूपुरे' (all prints) vs 'नुपुरे' (Webdunia, Geetmanjusha). 'लंबोदर पीतांबर फणिवरबंधना' and 'सरळ सोंड वक्रतुंड त्रिनयना' as in Navneet and Pangarkar (Gita Press 'सरल'; Geetmanjusha 'पितांबर फणिवर बंधना'). 'दास रामाचा वाट पाहे सदना' in every print and lyric text; Lokprabha's prose quotes 'सजना'. The last line's Gita Press 'सुरवरबन्दना' is a misprint for 'सुरवरवंदना'. Structure: Gita Press and Navneet print three stanzas; Pangarkar's 1927 edition prints two and gives the 'रत्नखचित' stanza in a footnote as the form current in the Samarth tradition. All three are given here.
