Origin of Vishnu Sahasranama
विष्णु सहस्रनाम की उत्पत्ति
Vishnu Sahasranama appears in the Anushasana Parva (Book 13) of the Mahabharata. On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Bhishma Pitamaha, lying on his bed of arrows, reveals these 1000 names to Yudhishthira when asked: 'What is the best way to attain salvation?' Each of the 1000 names describes a divine quality of Lord Vishnu — the preserver of the universe. The stotra takes about 25-30 minutes to recite completely.
