What a Guru Archana is
The pandit speaks your sankalp before Guru, Brihaspati, and chants the Guru mantra 108 times. Yellow flowers, chana dal, turmeric and a yellow cloth are offered. Prasad is offered in your name. Thirty minutes, with the 108 mantras said one at a time. Thursday is the day, and the yellow cloth is left at the sthan.

Why Guru (Brihaspati)
Guru, Brihaspati, is the graha of knowledge, of dharma, of a teacher and of children. He is the one graha tradition calls wholly benefic, and his archana is booked for marriage, for a child and before study.
गुरु, बृहस्पति, ज्ञान, धर्म, गुरु और संतान के ग्रह हैं। परंपरा उन्हें एकमात्र पूर्ण शुभ ग्रह कहती है, और विवाह, संतान तथा विद्या आरंभ के लिए उनकी अर्चना कराई जाती है।

Thursday is Guru's day. Thursdays of Paush and the Guru Purnima are the days asked for most. You choose the date when you book, and the archana is performed on that date.

You can add your family
One Sankalp holds up to 10 names. Each person gets their own archana, with their own gotra, nakshatra and manokamna, and you mark the relation — mother, father, spouse, son, daughter, brother or anyone else. The pandit speaks each sankalp by name.
What this is not
An Archana is not a separate pooja or hawan held for you at the temple. Archana performs the ritual and sends you the proof. It does not read your chart, and it promises no outcome.

Questions about Guru Archana
Guru Archana or Vishnu pooja for a marriage delay?
Tradition gives Guru for the marriage itself and Shukra for the match. If your astrologer named a graha, book that one. If several were named, Nav Grah Shanti covers all nine.
Is Brihaspati the same as Guru?
Yes. Brihaspati is the graha; Guru is the name devotees use. This is one archana, not two.
