What an Archana is
A pandit at Padmanabhaswamy takes your name, gotra and nakshatra. He speaks your sankalp and your manokamna before Vishnu, and offers flowers and prasad in your name. A devotee who cannot travel has always been represented at a temple this way, and your sankalp reaches Vishnu there.
An Archana is not a separate pooja or hawan held for you at the temple.
